With the increased exposure to sunlight and UV radiation, the need for protective eyewear should be in high demand. The majority of us use sunblock to protect our skin. A UV coating or transitional lenses (lenses that darken outdoors) in our regular glasses along with quality sunglasses as “sunblock for our eyes.” The occurrence of eye disease such as cataracts and macular degeneration are highly increased through UV exposure. Excessive sun exposure has also been linked in causing an elevation of the white part of your eye in towards the nose. This elevation can then begin to grow in toward the edge of your pupil. These “bumps” can then begin to appear as a yellowish or red color.

There is an area of the face designated the “T Zone,’ consisting of the chin, nose, forehead and eyes. Within this zone is the highest incidence of various forms of cancer. So as you can see, It’s highly recommend to always have a UV coating in all eyeglass lenses along with an anti-reflective coating. These two lense options provide the patient with the sharpest vision and the highest form of eye protection known to man.

The Vision Centers stock only the highest quality sunglasses to choose from. The majority of our designer sunwear use lenses that are made by such experts as Zeis and their equivalent. We stock many speciality sunglasses as Oakley, Maui Jim and Tag Heuer. If you want to feel safe knowing that your eyes have their highest level of protection, stop in to one of the Vision Centers today and purchase a pair of stylish sunglasses to prepare for outdoor fun.

You can feel the difference when you walk in.” That’s what we often hear from our repeat patients. What’s the difference between being a patient at the at the Vision Centers and being a patient at another eyecare facility? It’s our goal here to provide you (our valued patients) with the best service and products available in our industry. Everyone’s aware of our reputation in regards to carrying the best eyewear selection in the Valley. What everyone is not necessarily aware of is what goes into providing the best service to our patients. Dr. Chiodo handpicks each doctor from a vast application field and spends time with them in the exam room to assure they each deliver the high level of care we desire for our patients. As you can tell, they’re both the best doctors and also have great chairside manners.

We believe that we can always improve the delivery of our services, and this is key for us. Training is continuous and ongoing for any and all of us (from the top down) at the Vision Centers. All office mangers endure a rigorous two-week training including coursework and testing in Glendale, CA upon promotion to the manager post. In fact, Drs. Chiodo and Podloski have completed several three-day workshops and training over the last year and a half.

The staff receive constant supervision and unparalleled training from their office managers. Twice a year, selected staff attend weekend weekend seminars where more customer service skills are enhanced. It’s our goal to continue to be the best at what we do. We pride ourselves on being “Quality People Providing Quality Eyecare.”

Christopher Chiodo and Christopher Coker performed their first school vision screening on Thursday, February 23 and Thursday, March 15 at Faith Lutheran Academy. Under the direction of Colette Fried, the doctors screened over 150 4th, 5th and 6th graders. The screening was a huge success and led to many students requiring examination leading to proper vision correction and better vision for the children. Vision screenings only typically uncover 10-20% of all vision problems. It’s a definite positive having them and helping these students achieve better grades based on better vision. “It was amazing to me how many of these children had undetected vision problems,” stated Dr. Chiodo. Vision screenings are just that – screenings – and full annual eye examinations are recommended for all. We look forward to performing these free screenings at Faith Lutheran Academy annually and to expand on this program to include many more schools. If you know of an elementary school that could benefit from this program, call Dr. Chiodo at (702) 254-6222 to inquire.

We all know that eye sight decreases with age. However many people are unaware how important regular check ups and eye care becomes at the age of 65. Men and Women age 65 and older should be getting a yearly comprehensive dilated eye exam annually. At this age early detection of serious eye problems is very important. There are 4 conditions that are the most common cause of blindness and vision problems for seniors.

Macular Degeneration- This disease is age related as it mainly occurs in people over the age of 50. People experiencing this will have blurred vision that will affect activities like driving and reading.

Glaucoma- This eye disease causes a persons field of vision to narrow while causing damage to the optic nerve fibers of the eye. Early detection and care is important to slow the effects of this disease on eye sight.

Cataracts- This disease causes cloudy and blurry vision, glare when driving at night and seeing faded colors. Most seniors experience this disease but with cataract surgery the cloudy lens can be removed allowing the patient to see clearly again.

Diabetic Retinopathy - Seniors suffering from diabetes are at risk for another eye disease. This disease affects the retina of seniors with diabetes and causes vision problems. Seniors with diabetes have at odds 25 times more likely to experience blindness. Seniors with diabetes should receive an yearly exam by their optometrist with a dilated eye exam.

Everyone has experienced a minor eye problem at some point. Most people are unaware of what causes or how to treat an eye problem and when the problem requires medical attention.

Blurred Vision can occur for a few different reasons. Temporary blurred vision can be from fatigue or from an illness, or cold . If you are experiencing blurry vision that is more than temporary, make an appointment with your eye doctor. Extended bouts or blurry vision can be a result of change in eyesight, cataracts, presbyopia, uveitis, glaucoma or astigmatism. Many of these conditions are age-related as well.

Floaters in vision, are like seeing tiny spots or seeing floating strings that float across the eye every so often. If you are seeing floaters see an eye doctor as soon as possible. Floaters in your vision can be a result of a stroke, diabetes or retinal detachment.

Itchy Eyes. Are your eyes itching, burning and red? Itchy eyes can be a condition treated at home or need a doctors attention depending on the cause. If your eyes are itchy because they are dry or you are suffering from allergies, you can usually treat at home with eye drops. If you are a contact wearer you may want to wear glasses when experiencing itchy eyes to gain some relief. If you believe your eyes are itchy because you are experiencing pink eye or blepharitis, you should see an optometrist for treatment.

Twitching Eyes. While twitching eyes are very bothersome and unpleasant most of the time it is caused by caffeine, fatigue or stress. Try relaxing getting some rest and limiting caffeine intake. Eye twitching can also be caused by tourette syndrome, panic disorders or pink eye. Consult a health care professional if you believe you are suffering from any of these disorders.

Has your child been complaining about struggling to see the board in school or have you noticed them squinting and straining to see things. If so your child may be experiencing a change in vision and needs to have an exam by an Optometrist. Some schools do perform eye screening but they are not a in depth exam and can easily miss certain ailments like astigmatisms, different vision in each eye, farsightedness and lazy eyes. An Eye Doctor will be able to detect these ailments and provide you with a prescription for glasses or contacts so that your child is able to see clearly.

How do you determine if glasses or contacts are the right choice for your child. First you should ask your doctor which option will provide your child the most benefit. Next you must determine how responsible your child is and whether or not they will properly clean and disinfect their contacts. Improper disinfection and care will cause eye infections in your child. If you feel contacts are the better choice for your child but fear they will not care for them properly, daily disposable contacts are a great choice. If your child is an athlete contacts are a great choice.

Prevention is always better than correction. Sun protection is very important for a child’s eyes. Have your child wear sunglasses outdoors at all times. And not just stylish glasses, sun glasses with UV protection. Children are the most sensitive to UV rays with the eyes for the first 18 years. UV exposure can lead to conditions like cataracts that will not surface until old age.

As the cool brisk fall air starts to begin and we see pumpkins everywhere we know that our favorite spooky holiday is just around the corner. And as we all begin to put our creativity to the test for a great Halloween costume many will consider purchasing decorative contacts to complete their costume. Most people will purchase these contacts from an online retailer or a Halloween costume store. Before opting for these decorative lenses there are a few things everyone should know.

First you should not that these contacts are not vision enhancing and generally not purchased through an optometrists office. When you get contact lenses from an eye doctor they are fitted for your eye. These decorative contacts are not custom fitted and can cause irritation or minor to major injuries to your eye. If you are not familiar with how to care for contacts, store them and clean them properly there is a risk of causing an infection to the eye from improper disinfection.

However, if you are considering a wild decorative pair of contacts for your Halloween costume this year, consult your optometrist las vegas.Schedule an appointment at your optometrist’s office to have your doctor perform an eye exam. The eye doctor can get the correct measurements and prescription for your eyes and assist you in ordering a pair of decorative contacts that are custom fit to you as well as from a reliable manufacturer. Your eye doctor will also teach you how to properly care for contact lenses.

The requirements of eye care for a growing child differ from the proper eye care needed by adults. There are many misconceptions amongst people on what the proper eye care for children is. Many people do not realize that their children can receive the eye care they need at an adult optometry office. Many children will face eye health problems at an early age. That is why it is important to have your child’s eyes checked regularly with a through eye exam to catch any eye or vision problems early on. There are many school districts in the country that mandate and provide basic eye exam las vegas for children. A simple vision problem can impact the learning process of the child because they cannot read the board or cannot read their books. A vision problem can also cause headaches, eye pain, double vision, and blurry vision, which can make it very difficult for the child to properly participate in the classroom.

An eye care specialist such as an ophthalmologist, optometrist, and optician can easily treat these symptoms of poor vision in children. An Ophthalmologist is a doctor that performs extensive eye exams and treats adult and children’s eyes with corrective lenses. They also can perform eye surgeries and offer more in depth diagnosis. Optometrists offer eye exams, treatments for common eye disorders and can diagnose certain eye diseases. However, they do not perform any major eye surgeries. An Optician assembles, fits, sells and fills prescriptions for eyeglasses. Depending on what type of eye or vision problems your child is experiencing there is a specialist that can treat your child’s problem.
